Finishing up Demonstration Stones

During the weekend of the Orcutt show, I got a start on a batch of amethysts and citrines from the faceting demonstration. Of course, that meant that last week, I had that batch to finish up.

Shown here is the first one started at the show. It is a 2.86 carat amethyst which is 9.0 mm. in diameter. This one also got a little extra in the way of concave facets on the pavilion after the show since only the flat facet equipment was used for the demonstration.

Morganite

Another shimmering pastel gem and the first of the Tucson 2018 treasures to be cut. The 1.21 carat morganite (a pink beryl) is 7.2 mm. in diameter.

The rough material for this one was purchased from John E’ Garsow and came from Nigeria. It had a lot more color than some of the other morganite I saw elsewhere.

Aquamarine Octagon

This little aquamarine weighs in at 0.97 carats and is 6.4 mm across. The rough material for this one came from Brazil. It is a shimmering light blue that was not adequately captured by the photo

A nice round peridot

Photo here is of a newly cut peridot (August birthstone). It is 8 mm in diameter and weighs 2.84 carats. According to the notes on label that accompanied the rough, the material came from Arizona.

New Citrines

The Citrine pictured here is one of the items that was being cut during the faceting demonstration at the Santa Lucia Rockhounds show last month. It is 3.0 carats and 10.4 mm diameter.

It has been posted along with a handful of amethysts and a couple of other citrines that have been completed in recent weeks
